1. I didn’t know you were a nonprofit. What do you do here?

Yes, we are a nonprofit teaching farm. Amber Waves unites food and community with the mission to provide educational opportunities in agriculture for aspiring growers, thoughtful cooks, and eaters of all ages. We are a vertically integrated farm, market, kitchen, and community organization. We’re training farmers, feeding families, and educating all eaters. Would you like to support our work?

2. Are dogs allowed on the property? What if they are in a bag or carried?

Well-behaved pets are welcome to be leashed outside in the sideyard but are not allowed in our growing fields or food-production zones beyond the farm gates. As an active food production space, according to USDA health regulations, we are not permitted to allow dogs or pets of any kind inside our market. For clarity, we encourage all service animals to be identified in uniform when working inside our market.

3. Can we see the chickens and goats? Can we feed them?

You can visit them anytime the main farm gate is open. Do not feed our animals or enter fenced animal enclosures for health and safety reasons. You may pet the goats through the fence. We encourage you to wash your hands at one of our hand-washing stations after petting them.

4. How do I donate?

You can use our secure platform to become a recurring monthly donor or make a one time contribution to our work. Your contribution helps us train the next generation of farmers, educate all eaters, grow food for our neighbors, and offer open exploration on our community farm. Here are other ways to give:

  1. Double Your Donation with an Employer Match! Your gift could be matched dollar for dollar by your employer. 

  2. Gifts of Stock. A gift of stock may provide more benefits than a cash gift and you receive tangible tax-savings. 

  3. Make a Lasting Impact. Consider including Amber Waves in your will or trust by donating a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or agricultural or residential property.

  4. In Kind Gifts. As a working farm we always have a growing wishlist for tools and supplies. Do you have a vehicle that no longer passes inspection or a rental property or extra space in your home that could house farm apprentices? Reach out to us! 

  5. Get Involved! Interested in lending your professional services or expertise? We are always grateful for help.

5. Do you have farm tours? When?

  • The Amagansett Farmers Market was started by Pat Struck in 1954. The market has changed hands a few times since then, but Amber Waves began operating it in 2017. We make changes and updates often, so come back often to see how we’ve grown!

  • Amber Waves Farm birthday parties provide a fun, educational, and memorable experience for children. We offer a unique opportunity to connect with nature, learn about farm life, and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Amber Waves is offering a birthday or celebration event for your child and their friends with an educational focus. Party goers will harvest, prepare and decorate pizzas to share. Assorted flavored seltzers, cake and an educational craft of your choice will be provided. Educators will end the party with a photo opportunity of a background of your choice. Email education at education@amberwavesfarm.org for more information. Minimum of 10 children per party.

    No adult birthday parties at this time. Feel free to treat the farm as any public park. Gather at our picnic tables and thank you for cleaning up after yourselves. Any other questions can go to info@amberwavesfarm.org

  • You can join the waitlist directly on our website. Waitlists are set up for each sold-out class. Please add your name and email; you will automatically be emailed if spaces open up.

  • Thank you for your interest in our market. Please leave your sample with contact information and it will be given to our managers who have weekly product review meetings. You can also submit product information via email to info@amberwavesfarm.org  If we want to carry your product, we will contact you.

  • Yes, please enjoy! For everyone's safety, do not cross barriers and be sure to follow our signage and rules. We are a working farm with equipment and lots of activity.

  • No, our agricultural land easement does not allow weddings.

  • We have a full schedule of summer individual classes for kids. Check out our class schedule on the website. We do not offer a summer drop-off camp.

  • We grow 60 crops (300+ varieties) of vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, and grains.

  • When you join as a member of our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), you are making a commitment to local agriculture by sharing the risks and rewards of the farming season with us. Each week, you'll arrive at the farm to pick up a box of fresh, seasonal produce grown by our farm crew. But it's more than just a box of veggies; by prepaying for your season's worth of fresh food, you’re helping us cover the cost of seeds and supplies we need early in the season.   • No, our chickens lay only enough eggs for our farmers to enjoy.

  • While Amber Waves Farm is not certified organic, we do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Instead, we build soil and plant health with compost, natural amendments, cover cropping, and crop rotation. We are committed to the thoughtful management of land, soils, and other natural resources so that we and our community may continue to enjoy them for generations. Amber Waves follows organic and sustainable farming practices but we are not certified USDA organic. Email Amanda@amberwavesfarm.org if you have more questions.

  • Free public parking is available on the street.

  • Yes, Exploration Garden Saturday & Sunday Mornings from 9:30-11am, there is a suggested donation of $10. We also host Story time in partnership with the Amagansett Library.

  • Yes, in addition to donations, we receive support from foundations and corporate partners.

  • Amber Waves does not serve alcohol, but you can borrow our wine key.

  • Though they are prevalent in the area, we generally don’t see much tick activity in the farm's public areas.

  • We’re offering opportunities to pick your own flowers during our market hours instead of our after-hours workshops. Please contact info@amberwavesfarm.org if you have any questions.

  • We are continuing a partnership with East Hampton Compost and will allow customers to bring their compost on Wednesday mornings during CSA pickup.

  • 30 acres. We have 18 acres here, 8 and additional acreage across a patchwork of fields in Amagansett and East Hampton.

  • We have our flock of chickens, 5 Nigerian dwarf pygmy goats, and 3 farm cats!

  • We have a public wifi network that does not require a password.

  • We pride ourselves on following high product standards that follow our values of Stewardship, Sustainability, Community, and Exploration. All proceeds from our market fund the operation of our non-profit organization. We carry high quality, small-batch products that sometimes have a higher price point.

  • Yes. Please see the guides posted on our recycling bins to find out what recycling is accepted in our township. We continually actively seek packaging alternatives that are compostable and economical. Most of our packaging is compostable.

  • We prioritize products in the following order: from the East End of Long Island, New York State, Northeast Region, East-Coast, and USA-made whenever possible. In general, local means anything within a 250-mile radius of Amagansett.
